Why You'll Love This Recipe
These are a game day favorite and always a crowd-pleaser—perfect for Super Bowl parties or any time you’re feeding a hungry crew.
Secret to this Recipe... A bold, flavorful dry rub that’s super easy to whip up. Whether you go mild with Old Bay or bring the heat with Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Seasoning, you’ll get juicy, crave-worthy wings every time.
Here's What You Need

- whole chicken wings (or wing pieces) - Whole wings can be cut into drumettes (like mini drumsticks), flats (the most common wing part), and wing tips (great for stock). Cutting them ensures even cooking and easier eating.
- Old Bay Seasoning or Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Seasoning - Choose your favorite or mix both!
- Old Bay: Mild, savory, and herby with a touch of tang.
- Frank’s RedHot Buffalo: Spicy and tangy for classic Buffalo wing flavor.
- baking powder (not baking soda) - Baking powder helps them get extra crispy. Avoid baking soda, as it won’t have the same effect and can alter the taste.
- salt (Kosher or table salt):
Kosher salt is best due to its coarse texture. Table salt works, too. But use less since it’s a finer texture.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Variations
We like to make these a few different ways:
Mild Wings Recipe (Old Bay Wings Recipe) - Use Old Bay Seasoning for a delicious mild flavor.
Spicy Chicken Wings Recipe (Buffalo Wings Recipe) - Use Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Seasoning to make Buffalo Wings. Use Frank's Red Hot Sauce to make a tasty buffalo sauce by mixing it with melted butter. So good!
Saucy BBQ Wings - Toss them with your favorite BBQ Sauce and put them back in the oven till hot and bubbly. Delish.

How to Make Oven Baked Chicken Wings
- Pre-Heat Oven to 425°F. Place oven rack in the center position and preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
- Make Spice Rub. - This spice rub recipe has so much flavor and can be made hot or mild depending on your preference. We usually make both!
- Pat Dry. It's important to dry the chicken skin with paper towel so that the spice rub will stick to the meat. Don't skip this step.
- Toss with Dry Rub. Place wing pieces in a gallon Ziploc bag in a large mixing bowl with the spice rub, close the bag, and give it a good shake. Make sure the individual pieces are evenly covered.
- Transfer to Baking Sheet. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil or with a sheet of parchment paper in a single layer so that the pieces do not stick to the pan.
- Bake. Bake on the center oven rack for 20 minutes, and then turn them over and put back into the oven to continue baking for 25 more minutes. Baking time is 45 minutes in total or until they are golden brown.
- Serve Immediately and Enjoy.

🔥 Tips for the Best Oven Baked Chicken Wings
- Flip Halfway Through - Flip them halfway through cooking to ensure even browning and crispness on both sides.
- Pat Dry - Moisture is the enemy of crispiness! Use paper towels to pat the meat as dry as possible before seasoning.
- Use Baking Powder (Not Baking Soda) - Toss with a bit of baking powder to help the skin crisp up beautifully in the oven.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Pan - Space them out on the baking sheet so they’re not touching. This helps them cook evenly and get crispy all around.
- Use a Wire Rack - Place a wire rack on top of a parchment or foil-lined baking sheet so heat circulates under the wings for extra crispiness.
- Bake at High Heat - Bake at 425°F to get that golden, crispy finish without drying out the meat.
